BAGOT

Peter Tarr, originally from Ontario, owned the first John Deere tractor in Western Canada. It was a Model D with spoke flywheel and wooden platform, 60 years older than the Model D in the photo. Mr. Tarr’s tractor was purchased in the early 1920s, from a dealer in MacGregor, and came on a flat car on the CNR to Rossendale.

In 2000, the North Norfolk Community Growing Project took root on a plot of land 1 mile east of Bagot, with another near Austin. This project, 1 of 50 across the prairies, sees communities work together to grow a crop for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and organization that collects grain and cash for distribution to the world’s hungry. The CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) magnifies these donations by matching each dollar 4 times. In 2000, the 2 plots’ yield, when matched by CIDA, generated over $141,000 for aid overseas.
