Every Canadian military pilot passes through Southport at least once as they
learn to fly. |

This is the only remaining site of three
flying training centre established in the Portage area. Two were established
at Southport, the other at MacDonald. |

Southport once
sported a mascot with a wingspan of 7 feet – Southport Slim. |

Southport has the 1st
and only privately owned and operated, Transport Canada approved air traffic
control tower in Canada. |

First operations commenced on December 4,

Southport was 10 feet below the water line
of the Assiniboine River in 1940 prior to the construction of the aerodrome. |
